Back from Vacation and Ready to Roll
I thought I would write while on vacation in the Dominican Republic, but alas, I wrote not a word. We spent ten days there thanks to the generous offer from dear friends and had a wonderful time. The resort was fantastic with lots of restaurants, beaches, activities and different accommodations.
What more could you want than laying in a comfy cabaña with the ocean breeze tickling your skin and a long, cool drink in your hand? Certainly not a notepad and pen. Too much for the day. Then at night, a beautiful seaside dinner, conversation and drinks with dear friends. Nope, no time for writing now. It will just have to wait till I get home.
As I look back on this vacation, I see how wonderful it is to just give up on the daily routine and take ten days off from everything, laundry, cooking, cleaning (don’t do much of that) and even writing. It renews your desire to write and lights up ideas that have been smoldering in your mind.
Thank you dear friends who gave us the opportunity to regenerate!

New Photo for Book Back Cover
I broke down and had a professional take my photo to use for the back cover of my book. The book is still in editing and will be until sometime towards the end of March. Arghhhhh. It just takes time.
I hope the photo looks professional without looking stuffy! It’s so hard to know just what to use. But, since this is the only one I have…it is the one I will use.
Now I have to design a front cover. I did go to several sites to design my own, but I am waiting to see if the one publisher, who was interested and said to send the book after editing is finished, will pick it up. If not, well self publishing here I come.

10 Hour, Two Day Binge for Revisions from my Editor, Christina Frey
I recently received the edit for my book, “Waiting on the Outside”, back from my editor, Christina Frey. And, I have been working on it diligently. The other day I decided to just work on it all day for the next two days. I called it my “binge revision”. I spent the two days making the most of the revisions she suggested, adding content she suggested, and in general making it better. (She had over 340 comments)
An editor can really show you how you can improve, and she did. Where she moved things around, I could see how the flow of the story was so much better. In places where she suggested I “beef” it up a little, I could see how it was more interesting. Where she restructured sentences, I could see where my sentence structure could be improved. Lastly, I appreciated her comments when something was really good. Yea!
I am by no means done. I still have to go over the revisions, to make sure I did not cut any sentences in half or delete paragraphs while I was working! Easy to do when you are tired. I am also going to print it out and read it out loud to myself, because I have found it really helps to identify parts that could use a little touching up. Writing is not any easy job, where you sit down and just write. It is reflection on how it sounds, making sure it makes sense, keeping your voice, yet making sure the grammar is correct. I could go on and on, but those of you who write already know this. Rarely does a “perfect” paragraph just appear.
To those of you who are also in the editing stage of your work…good luck.
Finally….Back to working on my revisions
Gosh, it seems like I have not written for a year. Christmas and the preparation for it takes a lot of time. Oh well, I will just consider it was a vacation. Now I am preparing for my husband’s birthday. Only 50 people coming over. Did I just say that so off handedly? Lots of preparation for that too. At least I will have help from my daughter-in-law.
I have been working on the revisions from my editor, and for the most part I am happy with her suggestions for changes and edits for clarity and flow. There are a few things I disagree with, but then it is my book, so I can disagree if I feel it is important. That is something every writer should remember when making changes other people suggest. Your book or story must keep your flavor and tone.
Finally, I can get the work going again!! It makes me happy.

THE GIFT OF MUSIC
In our busy life, we need to take time to really think what others may be enduring.
We are one week out from Christmas now. The cards are out and most of the shopping is done. I still have cookies to bake and a Christmas Eve meal to plan. There is an on-going battle to keep Maggie and Millie (my 9 month old kittens) out of the tree. I’m losing. Being drenched by a water bottle or having a can of coins shaken at them fazes them little. They are junkyard-tough, little kitties
I wondered if in the run up to Christmas, there was anything I could offer that would be useful. Upon reflection, I have come across something that might be. My life with its ups and downs, pales to those who are dealing with serious illnesses. Recently, I watched a movie called Alive Inside. It deals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Music therapy has been found to…

Received the Edit of “Waiting on the Outside”
So…I received the edit from PageTwo Editing and it looks great. Unfortunately, there is a lot of work for me to do now. With Christmas just around the corner, I have not attended to duty as I should. I am so eager to get through the edit, but I have not made the progress I would like to. I can only say that I want to do a great job with my revisions, so I will hold myself back until after Christmas and then attack it with vigor. (Except if I get an undeniable urge in the next few days, or get caught up)
I am sure there are lots of you out there in the same predicament. Just don’t trade getting it done with doing a great job.
Do you know how to really reblog?
This is helpful as I did not know this. I hope it helps someone else!
