WHEN DOES THE SUN SET? OR WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MOON?

As we travel north and get closer to the summer solstice on June 21, we have more and more daylight. We haven’t seen night for over a week now. It is so strange to be out at 11PM and it’s still daylight.

Well, so much for the Alaskan Highway being a great road, which it was up to Tok. The road from there to Fairbanks was fraught with road work, pot holes, frost heave and gravel! But, taking advice from our friend, Frank, we drove slow and survived it. We did see a grizzly and some beautiful scenery along the road though. Can you imagine Lennard’s face when he saw how dirty the RV and tow care were? Yikes!!

Our RV park in Fairbanks was terrific. We had a site right along the Chena River with lots of space and trees. I was able to do laundry there in…

GRODZINSKY_Waiting 3D book_SMALL

Hello to all my followers out there.  Just wanted to let you know the Kindle version of my book, Waiting on the Outside, will be available FREE on a promotion for 5 days from June 1st to June 5th.  If you have any friends or family who read digital books, please let them know, so they can download it for free.  I really want to make it available for those who may not be able to purchase the print version (or don’t want too).

It is the story of my son and his journey to a federal prison and his affiliation with a white supremacist gang.  It is told from the perspective of the family and shows how devastating a loved one’s poor choices in life can affect everyone around them.  There are over 2.4 million people incarcerated in the US and that means there are millions of family members…

Moving up the OregonCoast

After a wonderful visit with my brother and sister-in-law, we headed over to the 101 via the 20. Oops, a little winding and narrow and harrowing.  We managed to get up the coast to the Willits KOA campground where two men helped us back into the narrow site. Lennard made beer drinking friends and played “Corn Hole”. (Something like horseshoes only with beer)

On Sunday we drove through the Avenue of the Giants in the redwoods.  Absolutely stunning. The redwoods are sentinels of time, withstanding fire and tree plagues. They can live for thousands of years, grow to over 300 feet and can be as wide as 20 feet.  The famous drive thru tree is 17 feet wide.

On Monday the plan was to stay in the Jedidiah Smith State Park.  What was I thinking?  We almost got stuck in the entrance. The road was so narrow I had to get out…

Waiting on the Outside.

I’m very excited to say my first book, “Waiting on the Outside ” is finally available on Amazon. The print version is available now and the Kindle version in a few days.  This is the true story of my son’s journey to federal incarceration and his affiliation with the Aryan Warriors.  It’s not a “feel good” book, but it is the honest story of family disintegration, sorrow and love in spite of it all.

It just feels good to have accomplished getting it published. The Next one, a work of fiction, should be done by the end of the year.

HOW TO USE YOUR CREATE SPACE INTERIOR PROOF

For a first time author, receiving the real live printed proof of  the interior of your first book is an exciting event.  First it is concrete evidence that you really have a book, and secondly it is another step closer to it being published.

Interior Proof IMG_1840

This is how the process works: You receive the printed interior book proof and read through it looking for mistakes and / or changes that need to be made.

Create Space has a “change form” that you down load so you can list your changes on the form.  Interior changes might be typos, forgotten paragraphs, word changes etc. Once you have listed all the changes, you upload it back to them.

You can also make design changes in the design change aspect of the process.  You list those on line in the next segment. Design changes might be spacing concerns, font changes, repositioning images or even layout changes.

If your changes are more than what is allowed, you may incur an extra charge. According to Create Space policy: Additional fees will only apply to changes to trim size, margins, or body copy font size.

Actually, it is a very easy process and the only thing that takes time is reading through your book for the hundredth time, since you have probably already read it so many times before.  If Create Space  has any questions regarding your changes, they will contact you before making them. (I am going to guess that there will still be mistakes as this is my first time, but hey , at least it is almost ready to be published.)

After they review and make your requested changes, you can opt for a digital copy or a printed copy.  Once you approve your book, you receive a complete (with cover) printed copy for your final approval before your book is published.  What could be simpler?  I love this process!
